State Formally Investigating Nursing Home Leadership

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) confirmed last week that they are conducting an investigation into the administration at Paradigm at the Oak nursing home in Schulenburg. Earlier this year the Record began reporting on the unusually large number of convicted sex offenders who live at the Paradigm facility in Schulenburg after learning about a sexual assault that took place there in November 2024.

‘Ich bin ein Amerikaner’: Celebrate The 4th of July Weekend on the Bluff

Celebrate America’s patriotic past this 4th of July weekend with Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites. The 27th Annual Fundraiser Fish Fry and Auction will be held on July 26 at the St. Michael’s Pavilion in Winchester. The meal will be served from 5-7 p.m. The meal will be a free-will donation, and you may dine in or carry out. 1975: Round Top Readies for 125th Annual 4th of July Fest

July 1, 1975 The mayors of Texas’s largest and smallest cities planned to ride in a Model T Ford truck in Round Top’s 125th consecutive July 4th parade. Houston Mayor Fred Hofheinz was joining Don Nagel, Round Top’s magistrate, for the event that was to begin at 10 a.m.

175 Years of Independence Day Celebrations in Round Top

The Round Top community has celebrated the Fourth of July every year since 1851, making this year’s celebration the 175th annual event. The celebration is considered the longest running Fourth of July celebration west of the Mississippi River.
