The Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum was buzzing with imagination and laughter as 133 community members gathered for Little Readers, Big Adventures, a free early childhood literacy event held on Sept. 6.

Children and families explored the world of classic fairy tales and nursery rhymes through hands-on literacy stations.

Families built castles using magnet tiles, they helped the Gingerbread Man float across the water without asking the tricky fox for help, children heard stories by Parents As Teachers educators, families also reenacted “The Three Little Pigs” and “Three Billy Goats Gruff” stories, and so much more.

The event was made possible through the generous support of the Parents as Teachers organization, BRIDGE, and Ms. Elaine Hernandez, who provided the community with engaging literacy materials, including English and Spanish books, eyeglasses, and bookbags.

A highlight of the day was the opening of the Melinda Stanzel Barneycastle Little Free Library, now located on the porch of the historic Stanzel ancestral home. Families were invited to select books to take home, continuing the joy of reading beyond the museum walls.

The Stanzel Museum extends heartfelt thanks to all who attended and supported this community celebration of learning, play, and reading.

The museum’s next big event will be Stanzel’s Drone Racing and Education Day, featuring exciting MultiGP Drone Racing on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. -3 p.m.

The Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum is located at 311 Baumgarten St. Schulenburg.

Open Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
