Two In Custody After Pursuit with Wrong Way Driver On Highway 71

On Wednesday July 8th, at approximately 1:47 a.m., The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls regarding a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lanes on Highway 71 near the West Point area.

Deputies Ryan Meagher and James Ulbig located the vehicle, a 2004 Lincoln Town Car, which was traveling approximately 75 mph into oncoming traffic.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle continued evading the deputies. Deputy Ulbig deployed spike strips which successfully flattened three of the vehicle’s tires.

The vehicle then came to a stop just inside Bastrop County. The deputies conducted a felony traffic stop and were able to place two subjects into custody.

The driver, identified as Marshall Bushnell, 45, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle and Reckless Driving.

The passenger, identified as Roman Brignac, 36, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport and Assault on a Public Servant for kicking and spitting on Sheriff’s Deputies.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Smithville Police Department and the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
