Fayette County Commissioners held a public hearing over the proposed property tax rate at a special meeting Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19. Commissioners must set the tax rate before they can approve next year’s budget. They unanimously voted to approve the tax rate the following day, Aug. 20.

COVID changed many things during the spring and summer, but business in La Grange continued and so did the grant programs offered through the City of La Grange’s Office of Community Development. Because of the pandemic restrictions, the department temporarily stopped check presentations.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department put out a big grease fire that started in the barbecue pit at the old Prause’s Meat Market building on the Courthouse Square Wednesday morning. The Second Floor Development Grant Program is funded by the La Grange Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and is designed to encourage the conversion of upper floors of existing commercial structures in the Historic District to residential units.
