On Tuesday Dec. 29, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Chevy Trax on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation. They discovered approximately 5.65 kilos of cocaine concealed in an aftermarket compartment built into the trans-axle. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $565,000. The driver, Enrique Uriega, 46, was arrested for felony cocaine possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.

La Grange Police rescued a dog from the retention pond behind the high school baseball field late Saturday night, Dec. 26.

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Christmas Fest turned out to be a success, despite the unknowns. Food sales were great and the Santa drawing was a huge success. They would like to thank all who participated in any way.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing Texans to carefully navigate family events, those living in isolation are facing a holiday season unlike any other. In response to emergency rules that have limited family access to long-term care facilities, State Representative James B. Frank (R - Wichita Falls) and State Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R - Brenham) today filed HB 892, HJR 46, SB 267 and SJR 19 in an effort to strengthen the rights of facility residents to maintain contact and personal visits with their loved ones during state emergencies.
