Holiday Incidents Include Dog Rescue, Troublesome Rooster

La Grange Police rescued a dog from the retention pond behind the high school baseball field late Saturday night, Dec. 26.

According to a report from the police department, officers received the call around 10:07 p.m. Sgt. Travis Anderson said a local woman had lost her Shih Tzu dog and was looking for it earlier in the day. She tracked it to the baseball field and found it stranded neck-deep in the retention pond.

Anderson said the steep, rubber-lined sides of the retention pond prevented the dog from climbing out. He and officer Kevin Currington responded and found a cattle panel located nearby. Anderson said they lowered the long cattle panel down to the water. The dog climbed onto the panel and the officers were able to pull it out of the water.

“It was stuck down there for a while,” Anderson said. “It was wet and shivering, but it was OK.”

Police received a few other unusual calls over the Christmas holiday. On Christmas Eve, around 20 minutes after midnight, a resident on Horton Street called police to report lights flashing on a neighbor’s house.

Police responded and discovered the flashing lights to be Christmas decorations.

A rooster on Washington Street kept waking up a neighbor. The same resident called police two times last week, on Wednesday, Dec. 23 and Sunday, Dec. 27, to complain about the rooster. The first time, the resident reported the crowing at just before 3 a.m. The rooster apparently slept in that Sunday, because that time the resident called around 5:15 a.m.
