County Judge Says Trump, Others Share Responsibility

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber condemned the acts of violence at the Nation’s Capitol last Wednesday, Jan. 6. Weber said President Donald Trump is not the only person to blame for the mob that breached the chambers of Congress in an attempt to stop the electoral vote count.

COVID-19 Numbers

As of Sunday night the Fayette County office of Emergency Management had revised it COVID-19 count of local fatalities up to 17 (from 15 previously) since the pandemic began. Additionally, the county was reporting eight active cases and 45 probable cases, which is lower than the case count has been recently.

The Christmas Greenhouse Goes Up

My boys and I got that junk pile loaded up and the new greenhouse set up last weekend. If you read my last column, you may recall that my parents bought me a hobby greenhouse for Christmas.
I started these seedlings on my porch about a month ago, before I even knew I was getting a greenhouse for Christmas. From left they are Bulgarian giant leeks, Flashy Butter Gem lettuce, Chinese pink celery (which is very slow-growing and has taken weeks to sprout) and the tray all the way on the right contains several different cole crops including purple kohlrabi, Chinese cabbage, Tuscan kale and tree collards. Castleberry Named Deputy Of Quarter

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Investigator Jeremy Castleberry has been selected for the award of Deputy of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2020. Investigator Castleberry has been with the Sheriff’s Office for six years as the crisis intervention investigator, handling cases involving persons living with mental illness or persons experiencing a mental health crisis. Castleberry has worked in law enforcement for 12 years in both his current role and previously as a patrol officer for the City of Columbus. Castleberry is a certified instructor in numerous subjects and also oversees the Sheriff’s Office training program as well as conducting background investigations of potential new employees. Castleberry was selected for this award by the supervisors of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in recognition of his dedicated performance.
