Vaccine: ‘Where is the Stuff? We Are Waiting’

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber expressed some frustration at the slow pace of coronavirus distribution from the State.

“We need to get this stuff distributed as quick as we can, but we don’t have anymore coming right now,” Weber said. “Where is the stuff? We’re waiting.”

County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said a new shipment of vaccines could arrive in Fayette County this week.

Weber said he thinks the vaccines should be offered to more people than the current allocations for medical personnel, first responders and the most at-risk.

“I think the distribution plan is somewhat flawed,” Weber said. “I think it’s great to target people, but we need to get it out on the street as fast as we can. I don’t care if it’s like the old ice cream truck going up and down the street when we were kids. Get it out there.”

Weber said many of the first responders who got the first round of vaccinations are healthy and are at lower risk of COVID complications. Furthermore, he said first responders are more likely to take steps to protect themselves from infection than the general public.

“Maybe it’s the party animals you want to give it to,” Weber said. “Get it out on the street. Get it in the arms of people. I think the distribution is a little too targeted.”
