Fayette County Judge Joe Weber praised residents, first responders and other public service employees who worked together last week to start the recovery process following the historic winter storm. “It was a great effort,” Weber said.

Fayette Water Supply Corporation (FWSC) continues to battle leaks and water well problems following the historic winter storm last week. The corporation issued several boil water notices as water started flowing again late last week to many customers who had been out of water for days.

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber said that two people were separately discovered dead during the storm. Weber said he did not know if the cold weather played a part in either case.

A number of local school districts suffered busted pipes during last week’s storm, but repair work was quick and classes were set to resume Monday Feb. 22 after all campuses were closed last week.

A home on FM 2981 burned in the early hours of Thursday morning, Feb. 18.

Giddings Times & News • The owner and pit boss at a long-standing meat market and restaurant in Giddings has died. Gerald Birkelbach, owner of City Meat Market, died unexpectedly on the morning of Feb.

The Navidad Valley Cattle- Women (NVCW) are a local chapter of Texas Cattlewomen and have been serving the tricounty area of Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties since 2004. Like any volunteer run organization, encouraging new members is critical to keep the mission alive.
