Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley is actively seeking a new Executive Director to oversee operations of our Clubs in Weimar, Schulenburg and Columbus as current Executive Director, Jennifer Mc- Coskey, will be resigning her position at the end of May 2021.

Schulenburg Police arrested a local man last Wednesday for stabbing another individual that day. The stabbing happened around noon on March 31, according to a report from Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek.

Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation designating the month of April 2021 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Fayette County. On hand for the signing was Alicia Elam, a supervisor with CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties. CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, provides children in family court cases with trained volunteers to advocate on their behalf until they are placed in safe, nurturing and permanent homes. CASA advocates work with children who often come from abusive households. At least 194 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported and investigated in Fayette County in 2020. According to CASA, at least 47 of those children are known to have fell victim to neglect and abuse. Many more likely suffer in silence. This summer Father Tim Kosler is retiring. He is currently the Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Schulenburg, St. Mary Church in High Hill, St. John the Baptist Church in Ammannsville, and St. Wenceslaus Church in Holman. That is touching off a series of changes in assignments for area priests.

Giddings Times & News • A Blue woman allegedly confessed to stabbing her male roommate to death and dumping his lifeless body on the side of the roadway in a ditch a short distance from their house. Jennifer Kramer, 41, reportedly provided a confession to investigators about using a knife to stab and kill her roommate, 32-year-old Christopher Gonzales.

April 9-13, 1971 Fifteen officers, including Fayette County Sheriff T.J. Flournoy, converged on a Galena Park pawnshop near Houston shortly after 8 a.m.

A Warrenton man accidentally shot himself last Friday, April 9. The injuries were not life-threatening, according to a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

On Highway 71, just east of Kitchen Lane between La Grange and Ellinger, there’s a stunning field of bluebonnets, and the world has noticed. Someone online dubbed it the “Best Bluebonnet field in Texas” and in the last few days people have been coming there in droves.

Coronavirus numbers continue to improve in Fayette County according to County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau. “We’re at zero to single digits for hospitalizations over the last several weeks now, which is fantastic,” Moreau said in a report to the County Commissioners last Thursday.
