Ashley Kocurek, of Schulenburg, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Kocurek was initiated at University of Houston-Victoria.

Five young people of Martin Luther Lutheran Church received their First Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday, April 1. They were Summer Dooley, daughter of Blake and Amber Dooley; Kooper Kirts, son of Bryan and Shayne Kirts; Christian Pratt, son of Scott Pratt and Amie Jo Smith; Morgan Williams, daughter of Buck and Mia Williams; and Tinley Woodruff, daughter of Al and Lyndell Woodruff.

Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation designating the week of April 11-17 as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Fayette County. On hand for the signing were Fayette County’s 911 dispatchers, who answer emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The County’s 911 Call Center never takes a day off. Fayetteville Bank donated a new air compressor to Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department. “We would not have the fire department that we do today without the wonderful support of our community,” the department said. KJZT Family Life adopted a statewide Fraternal 100 Project, recognizing each of the 64 Status Societies of 2020. The Fraternal Project provided $100 from the State office to each Status Society to be given to the charity of their choice. St. Anne’s Society No. 10 of Fayetteville donated the money to the St. John’s Catholic Church Religious Education Fund. In 2020, KJZT Societies were not deterred by the pandemic in their mission to positively contribute to their community. New and innovation projects were held and donations were still given. St Anne’s Society No. 10, KJZT of Fayetteville held a Cookbook Sale for the 2020 People Helping People Community Fundraiser.
