Second Saturday on the Square is continuing to grow. Second Saturday is an event where families and the community come to bring activities, food, and creations to sale and share with neighbors while listening to music. This week we had Gaga ball, vegan hamburgers, tether ball, hide and seek, honey-made lemonade, plants, DJ music, woodcarving, apple blossoms, caramel popcorn, jams, and jellies. Next Second Saturday on the Square is May 8 from 5-8 p.m.

Almost 40 years ago , Fr. Ben Mazurkiewicz began the tradition of litter pickup by members of the Knights of Columbus Fayetteville/Ellinger Council. To this day, every six months in the spring and fall, members of the Council have continued to pick up litter along Hwy. 159 from the SBJST ballpark to Rek Hill.

Fayette Electric Cooperative’s lineworkers were recognized on April 12, National Lineman Appreciation Day, for the admirable job they do in keeping the lights on for the over 9,990 members that the Cooperative serves.

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, April 24, as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick- Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items that are difficult for you to take to our drop off during our semiannual cleanup. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city.

Giddings Times & News • Peggy Hooper Els, 60 of Giddings, was found guilty of injury to a child and sentenced to 60 days confinement in the Lee County Law Enforcement Center on March 23. Els was the former caretaker for a local child with cerebral palsy, employed by the boy’s family for about 10 years.

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine clinic scheduled for Saturday at the Fayette County Fairgrounds has been put on hold, according to county officials. “The State notified me this morning that, out of an abundance of caution, all Johnson and Johnson shot clinics have been placed on hold.

As a Home-Rule Municipality, the City of La Grange has a Charter, which is a source of authority and a limitation on some governmental powers. The Charter establishes a framework for how the City’s government is structured and provides guidelines beyond those generally-applicable in state law. The City’s Home- Rule status was granted by the voters, which approved the Charter, and periodically approve amendments to the Charter. The La Grange City Council is asking the voters to approve a set of amendments at a Special Election on May 1, with Early Voting starting on April 19. Voters are allowed to approve all, some, or none of the propositions.

And Then A New Day’s I GROW Program currently has gardening plots at Jack & Mary’s and the Schulenburg Community Garden. It also features container gardening barrels on the corner of our new site.

American Legion Due to the extended dates of the recently completed Spring 2021 Antiques Show, the monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 scheduled for Thursday, April 15 will only be for the Executive Committee.
