Litter Cleanup Continues in Fayetteville
Almost 40 years ago , Fr. Ben Mazurkiewicz began the tradition of litter pickup by members of the Knights of Columbus Fayetteville/Ellinger Council. To this day, every six months in the spring and fall, members of the Council have continued to pick up litter along Hwy. 159 from the SBJST ballpark to Rek Hill.
Sidewalk Replacement
On Tuesday, April 6, M&C Fonseca picked up on the sidewalk replacement project where they left off after the antique show, as scheduled. Demolition in front of Rohde, Dybala’s and Yesterday’s Past has been completed. A note from the sidewalk replacement planning committee: “We are aware that this is a noisy disruption to businesses and property owners in the square and want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding. This project is being completed as quickly as possible with the least amount of interference.” All businesses in the square will continue to be easily accessible.
Central Texas Food Bank
The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Friday, April 16 from 10-11 a.m. Drive-thru only. Someone will direct traffic. Everyone is being asked to remain in their cars and to make room inside their trunks or truck beds for the prepackaged food boxes. These are placed into each vehicle by volunteers.
Bluebonnet Sightings
Bluebonnets are busting out everywhere—huge patches on Hwy 159 toward Industry, Ross-Prairie Church Rd. and Ehlinger-Becker Rd. The Texas Yellowstar along Cummins Creek Rd. is majestic. Mother Nature has come back in all her glory after that crazy freeze.
ARTS Activities
What’s up at ARTS? A lot. The solo exhibit Kindred Spir its by Rita Kirkman is showing through May 29. Kirkman’s paintings are part of public and private collections from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Africa and Australia. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
On April 15, 16, 17, Doris Vasek is teaching an adult Oil and Cold Wax Painting workshop. On April 21, look for another Fine Art Assembly with the Kathak Dance Group, East Indian. And for two full days, May 1 and 2, ArtWalk will feature a celebration of everything art. Homecoming Week
It’s Homecoming Week for Fayetteville ISD. Seniors cap and gowns have arrived for their big day on May 21. Fourth graders wrote imaginative/historical journals from the perspective of an imaginary Texian who had lived through, and survived, the Runaway Scrape, or were survivors of the Battle of the Alamo. The students read their journal entries to Mrs. Karley Gaytan’s first grade class.
Early Voting Begins
Early voting for the City of Fayetteville election begins April 19 and ends April 27. If voting by mail, you must submit an application for a ballot by mail ahead of election time to be received by the County Elections Office no later than Tuesday, April 20.
