On the morning of May 6, the Fayette Community Foundation hosted twenty-two nonprofit leaders at the Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club to facilitate a professional forum and community needs assessment. Attendees of the forum represented seventeen of the diverse nonprofit organizations who serve Fayette County and the surrounding areas, all of whom were actively engaged in collaborative discussion throughout the meeting.

Youth and education are the primary objectives of the Fayette County Fair Association. In 2021 the Fair Association will again award 20 scholarships to seniors from five Fayette County high schools, which include Fayetteville, Flatonia, La Grange, Round Top-Carmine, and Schulenburg. These scholarships are in the amount of $1,000 each, totaling $20,000 for 2021.

Habitat for Humanity was the designated beneficiary for the May cook conducted by the St. James Episcopal Church of La Grange “Holy Smokers” Men’s Club. The “Holy Smokers” hold a drive through fundraiser the second Saturday of each month in the church parking lot at 156 N. Monroe across from the H-E-B in La Grange, selling smoked chicken and pure pork sausage. The fundraiser supports a different Fayette County non-profit each month. The monthly sale is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out.

The Hostyn Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 2282 announced the 2021 local court winners of the annual CDA National Education Contest. It seems to have become tradition that the weekend of Turtle Wing Foundation’s Jack Hooper Day at the Ball Park & Home Run Derby will be dampened by rain, and usually a lot of it. It has been rained on more than not over the last ten years. Still, supporters gathered and made the best of it with the protection of Wolters Park Pavilion. It poured rain right up until the 5K started, when the weather lightened up for those tough enough to show up and participate.

On Sunday, May 16, scholarships were presented to 12 students from Queen of the Holy Rosary-Hostyn and Sts. Peter & Paul-Plum. Much of the funds for the scholarships were raised from the church’s monthly scholarship breakfast. Accepting scholarships were from left: Jereld Brothers, Wyatt Wick, Austin Wick, Chelsea Brothers, Tyler Johnson, Missy Muras, Megan Brothers, Bryssa Rios, and Cassie Redding.
