The 63rd Annual Shelby Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser is set for Sunday, May 30 at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. A BBQ chicken and sausage drivethru meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. until gone. Desserts and raffle tickets will be available.

The LGISD board Monday approved a one-time stipend for all full-time employees hired by Sept. 1, 2020 and still employed on May 17, 2021 in the amount of $1,000 and employees hired after Sept. 1, 2020 but still employed on May 17, 2021 in the amount of $500. In addition, all substitute teachers who worked the equivalent of 20 school days during the 2020-2021 school year are to receive a $500 stipend. The funding for this stipend will be the ESSER III funds that the district has been notified it will receive.

Heavy rains in the Flatonia and Schulenburg area necessitated several water rescues Tuesday evening, May 18. Flatonia Fire and Rescue saved several people from rising water, including rescues at the Interstate 10 exit ramp in Flatonia, FM 609 under the I-10 overpass, the 700 block of South Main St.

St. Paul Lutheran in Serbin will have a Dedication Ceremony of a bronze replica of the 1854 St. Paul Serbin bell that the Wends brought with them on the Ben Nevis. The Texas Wendish Heritage Society invites everyone to attend this joyous occasion and first ringing of this German made bronze bell on Sunday, May 23 at 3 p.m.
