Navidad Valley Community Center In Need of Volunteers
NVCC is pleased to announce the winner of the Mother’s Day Quilt, Mike “Bubba” Olle. The NVCC staff and board of director’s appreciates everyone who supported the senior center by purchasing tickets, displaying the quilt in prominent business settings, and especially to the group of ladies at the Crafty Corner who had the original thought.
Twelve people carpooled in four vehicles for an outing to the Hatari Wildlife Park. Members arrived at 9 a.m., signed forms, grouped up in vehicles and took off. It was a short drive down Hwy. 90 and the park was great. We recommend taking in the boardwalk section because that’s where you are the closest to the animals and can see them up close. The male peacock sure did like us because he kept his beautiful tail feathers propped up for us and getting to feed the giraffe was a highlight as well. It was a great experience and we are so glad that we went plus Irene Janda almost got kissed by an ostrich. Our generous donor even provided lunch for us. She had arranged for us to enjoy our lunch at the Weimar Golf Course.
A short trip to La Grange to visit the Czech Heritage Museum and have lunch in town is also planned.
The center will be closed on Monday, May 31 for Memorial Day. There will be a Memorial Day celebration at the park, sponsored by the American Legion.
If you are at home with some time on your hands and want to do something meaningful that will make a positive difference please call Cindy, because we are in need of volunteers to help out at the center. We could use some assistance setting up a filing system, compiling data into reports for board meetings, with our meal service serving line and clean up afterwards so the center is ready for the next activity. We still have one week where we could use a business partner to sponsor and call Bingo for us on a Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Navidad Valley Community Connections is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a mission “to provide a multipurpose organization that initiates, sponsors, and promotes events, activities, and projects which enhance the quality of life for older adults in Fayette County and the surrounding communities. NVCC is located next door to the Boys & Girls Club in Wolters Park.
