Head Start Program Coming to La Grange Elementary Campus
La Grange ISD has been collaborating with CEN-TEX Family Services to develop an Early Head Start and Head Start program in the district to serve students from 2 months of age up to 3 years.
The agreement was approved at Monday night’s meeting.
CEN-TEX Family Services proposes to provide high quality early childhood services to approximately 33 children in the district. This will include two Early Head Start classrooms with eight children (ages two months to three years) with two teachers in each classroom. It would also include one Head Start classroom for 17 three-year-olds with one teacher and one teacher assistant. Included in the staff at this program would also be one center director that oversees staff and supports classrooms and one family advocate that supports families.
The program will be located in the Student Services and Technology Center at 708 East Travis St. The goal of this program is for CEN-TEX Family Services and La Grange ISD to collaborate to enhance services to children and families, provide research based learning experiences in a safe and healthy environment while preparing our families to enter the public school system ready to learn at age appropriate levels.
The board has approved a lease agreement with CEN-TEX Family Services. In this agreement, the district will allow the use of the facility at the Student Services and Technology Center, but not incur any costs for improvements to the building. CEN-TEX will pay for all improvements to the building including a playground in the covered patio area of the building. CEN-TEX is asking for a 15-year lease agreement due to the costs that will be incurred.
CEN-TEX plans to begin the Head Start program in the fall of 2021.
