Donkeys, guineas, alpacas, and other farm animals mingled with wide-eyed spectators in Lexington at the Texas Skydiving facility on Friday, as 14 Fayette County residents finally got the chance to skydive for Fayette County Habitat for Humanity. After a few reschedules due to mother nature and a relocation change, the event took place all day Friday.

Luis Arturo Celis Avila, a double bass player from Venezuela, sees music as an agent for social improvement. The 21-year-old came to the Round Top Festival Institute this summer after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston with training in jazz composition and double bass performance.

Former Smithville Mayor Scott Saunders was arrested in Fayette County Thursday, June 24, on two counts of sexual assault. Saunders, 35, was previously arrested May 10 for sexual assault of a minor in Bastrop County.

The Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting got by with a skeleton crew Thursday morning. Fayette County Judge Joe Weber was absent due to an appointment that couldn’t be rescheduled. Pct. 1 Commissioner and County Judge Pro Tem Jason McBroom was away on vacation that he scheduled several months ago.

The Gonzales Inquirer • The Gonzales City Council approved a $1.825 million settlement in the lawsuit brought in 2017 by the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary against the city over its handling of property it received from the estate of J.B. Wells.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring Bingo on Saturday, June 26. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. There will be fifteen regular games including $1500 in prizes--$100 each game. There will be two jackpots – $500 each. Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, desserts, and refreshments. Bingo has also been scheduled for July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 11, Oct. 30, and Nov. 13. A huge appreciation is extended to the volunteers who came out to help at the Round Top Family Garden Library workday Monday, June 14. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided a grant to cover the mulch for the garden beds. Swing by and take a look.
