Local Events Abound This Weekend
Still not sure what to do for the 4th of July weekend? Well, Fayette County does not have a lack of activities, events, picnics, or fireworks for you and your family to choose from.
Backyard Bull Bash
You can start the weekend on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the Buckin’ N Arena, located at 8539 FM 2145 in La Grange, for Marty “Rooster” Norsworthy’s 16th Annual Backyard Bull Bash which benefits the Ronald McDonald House of Central Texas. There will be bull riders, calf scrambles, mutton busting, live music, live and silent auctions, and fireworks. Food and drinks will also be available. Frisch Auf! Fireworks
Your 4th of July weekend would not be complete without watching the annual Frisch Auf!
Valley Country Club Fireworks show in La Grange on Saturday. This year things will be done a little differently. Starting at 5:30 p.m. Frisch Auf! Invites the community to come out and enjoy an evening of outdoor entertainment, food, and fun. Along with the fireworks, there will be live music on the tennis courts with a dance floor, hamburgers, hot dogs, and a snack booth, plus a beer and wine booth.
St. John Picnic
To kick off the celebration on Sunday is the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Parish located just six miles southwest of Schulenburg at 7026 FM 957 will be having its annual 4th of July Picnic celebrating its 133 year. Mass will start at 9:00 a.m. and following Mass, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. A dine-in or take-home lunch of stew, fried chicken, and all the trimmings will start at 10:30 a.m. for $10 a plate. Along with lunch, you can enjoy music by The Shiner Hobo Band, The Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens, and Mark Halata and Texavia. Other entertainment includes an auction at 12:30 p.m., a raffle at 8:00 p.m., and fireworks at 10:00 p.m. There will also be a Country Store, ring toss, a cake walk and so much more.
Dubina Dinner
The Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina will also be having its annual 4th of July drive-thru dinner at the Dubina Community Hall celebrating its 165th year. “Dubina-Style” fried chicken and sausage along with all the trimmings will be served at $10 a plate beginning at 10:30 a.m. until sold out. Dubina Cookbooks and Sweepstakes Drawing tickets will be available for purchase. You can also view and bid on items on their online auction at www.charityauction.bid/dubinapicnic starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday at 6 p.m.
Remnant 4th of July
The Remnant Church is also inviting everyone to their Freedom Church Service and Party to celebrate the 4th of July. Instead of morning service, the church will have a service at 5:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. After the service, there will be water baptisms. Then at 6:00 p.m., the party will start with free hot dogs, watermelon, a waterslide, splash pad, and games. The night will end with a fireworks display starting at 9:00 p.m.
Round Top
And, of course, the longstanding Round Top 4th of July Celebration. This year marks the 171st annual celebration. Activities will start at 10:00 a.m. on the Town Square and the shooting of the cannon will announce the start of the parade at 10:30 a.m. Once the parade ends starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall BBQ will be served along with sides. If you choose to dine in you can enjoy the Round Top Brass Band, Round Top Jam Session, and Cool Freddie and the Crew. You can also enjoy the Biergarten, a cake walk, a raffle, and just an old-fashion patriotic celebration.
No matter which activities, events, picnics, or fireworks you choose to participate in you are bound to have a great 4th of July in Fayette County.
