According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, here are the estimated number of current active cases of COVID-19 in various counties in this area as of Sunday Aug. 1..

August 3, 1971 Three youngsters, aged 14, 12 and 10, admitted to breaking into the La Grange utilities office and the county agricultural building on Friday night. The case was broken on Saturday about 7 p.m.

Flatonia City Manager Sarah Novo and City Secretary Heather Ambrose submitted letters of resignation last week. The Flatonia City Council will consider those resignations at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 2.

Groundwork recently started on a pair of big construction projects in Schulenburg. Developers of the Texan Convenience Store at the southwest corner of US 77 and Interstate 10 and the Ace Hardware Store at 210 Heinrich Avenue behind the Best Western both filed development permits with the City.

The number of active coronavirus cases in Fayette County surpassed 100 by the end of last week. That figure comes from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) database of “Estimated Active Cases Over Time by County.” The count was up from a recent low of just six cases on June 7.

La Grange Independent School District sent a letter to parents last Friday outlining the district’s plan for dealing with COVID in the upcoming school year. Superintendent Bill Wagner said the district has been planning for 100 percent in-person learning.

A 24-year-old woman died in a vehicle crash on US 290 between Ledbetter and Carmine. The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, who were reportedly from out of state.

Two Austin artists were in Fayette County last week, painting a mural on the entire side of the alpaca barn at Texas Party Animals in Holman, the alpaca-rental business owned by Loretta Hajovsky that continues to gain state and national attention (Cadbury bunny try-out finalist, etc.). The husband/wife are team were Juan Villegas and Rosemary Allen. The painting is of an old hippie bus with the alpacas driving and hanging out the windows.
