Active COVID Cases Back in the Triple Digits Here

The number of active coronavirus cases in Fayette County surpassed 100 by the end of last week.

That figure comes from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) database of “Estimated Active Cases Over Time by County.” The count was up from a recent low of just six cases on June 7. According to the database, the number of estimated cases hasn’t surpassed 100 here since April 24. However, it is still far below the County’s high of 394 estimated active cases on February 12.

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said at a recent Commissioners Court meeting that DSHS uses an algorithm that takes into account various factors to determine the number of “estimated” cases.

DSHS also publishes a database of “Confirmed New Cases Over Time by County.” According to that tally, 36 new cases were confirmed in Fayette County last week.

According to DSHS’s count of “Fatalities Over Time by County,” 69 people in Fayette County have died from the virus.

The last Fayette County death recorded in that database was on June 29.
