Woman Dies in Accident on Highway 290 in Fayette Co.

A 24-year-old woman died in a vehicle crash on US 290 between Ledbetter and Carmine. The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, who were reportedly from out of state.

The crash happened last Thursday, July 29, around 9:42 p.m. near the intersection of US 290 and Round Top Road. According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, 63-year-old Kindred Lawrence Raven of Elmendor was driving a 2018 Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a trailer. The rig was heading west in the left lane and was attempting to make a left turn. The report said a 2016 Haiundai Sonata was also heading west approaching the rig from behind.

The car failed to travel in a single lane and entered the left turn lane, the report said. The report said the car failed to control speed and struck the rear of the trailer.

The car caught on fire. The female driver died at the scene. The results of an autopsy are pending, the report said.
