Navidad Valley CattleWomen will hold their 8th Annual 5K Ranch Run on Aug. 7, in conjunction with the Schulenburg Festival. Online registration will remain open until Thursday, Aug. 5 at http://getmeregistered. com/NVCattleWomen5K. Additionally, there will be on-site registration starting at 6 a.m. on race day.

Out and About Nancie Blair traveled last week to see her granddaughter Valarie and great granddaughter Candence. Nancie reports that the baby is growing and has started teething already! Darrell and Dana Kulak have been busy over the last couple weekends.

Local Rural Nonprofit Networking Group to Reconvene Meetings

All across Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca, and surrounding counties, local community members lead the staffs and boards of numerous nonprofit organizations who provide a diversity of social services to our rural area. Healthcare providers, artists, animal advocates, educational leaders, and housing specialist make up just some of the many who proudly serve in the same communities they live. As these nonprofit organizations begin to heal from these past 18 months, convening with each other to share knowledge and resources will not only strengthen the public sector but also enhance the communities we call home.

Carmine Lions Meet, New Officers Installed

The Carmine Lions Club held their first meeting for the 2021-2022 year on July 13. District Governor Joe Franks and Zone Chair Kelli Higgins both attended the meeting. Most of the discussion at the meeting was about upcoming events/fundraisers for our community. Jody Pohl also attended for a question-and-answer session on how cook-offs are done. The club is considering hosting a cook-off next spring for the State Cookers Association.

Quilt Block Paint Class in Winchester

The next scheduled Quilt Block Paint class is Saturday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at Zilss Hall in Winchester. The class is six hours, and a 2x2 quilt block will be completed. Registrations are still available, and you may register at www.quiltblocktrail.com. You may use a credit card to pay the registration fee of $65 by calling Rhoda Gersch at (979) 242-3213. The only thing you need to bring to class is a sack lunch; all other supplies are provided.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that officers responded to 111 calls for service during the week of July 24 through July 30. On July 24, Officer Meagher met a subject at the Police Department in regard to an assault.
