The Brenham Heritage Museum (BHM) knows that few things beat a day at the Washington County Fair. Their latest exhibit, opening on Saturday, Aug. 7 and remaining in place into January 2022, celebrates the oldest county fair in Texas. As BHM’s old post office building is undergoing restoration, all history our exhibits are being mounted in the Bus Depot Gallery off Alamo Street at Clinton. The Bus Depot Gallery is open every Saturday from 10 to 4 and other days by appointment. Many small groups, both local and from out of town, regularly make appointments to visit during the week.

Friday Summer Movie Nights at Henkel Square continues Friday with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” followed by the closing movie, “Captain Marvel” on Aug. 13. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs for this free event. The movie starts at 8:30 p.m.

At the July school board meeting, the RT-C ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the SSO school nutrition option for the 2021-22 school year. The SSO option provides the opportunity for every student at RT-C ISD to eat for free.

Cade Burks, newly-elected Council member, was instrumental in helping to select a new auditor for the city. “We obtained several bids and awarded a three-year contract to Siedel Schroeder as the official City of Fayetteville auditor for FY 2020 – 2022,” stated Burks. “Siedel was referred to us by our previous auditors, Medack & Oltmann. They couldn’t continue with us due to their lack of staff. They worked with the City from 2017 to 2019.” As one of his first initiatives, Fayetteville’s financial information will be made available on the new website. Burks brings over 30 years of financial management, tracking and forecasting to his position in Place III.

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School Principal Rosanne Gallia presented a $1,100 donation from the school to Sister Rebecca Janacek and Sister Laura Toman. St. Rose School students, families, faculty, and staff collected donations as a service project during Holy Week to support the IWBS Promise Pointe project in Victoria and their mission in Africa.

St. Mary’s Church, Praha is celebrating its 166th Parish Picnic on Sunday, Aug.

The Round Top Lions Club recently donated $1,000 to Hope Rising. Hope Rising is a nonprofit organization and licensed Texas Child Placing Agency dedicated to the rescue and restoration of minors rescued from human sex trafficking. Eight people including several with local ties were hospitalized following a horrific crash at the intersection of SH 71 and US 90-A in Colorado County. A benefit has been organized in Rock Island later this month to assist members of the Gabler, Belota, Rocha and Navarro families who were injured in the wreck.

The Flatonia City Council voted 3-2 to accept the resignation of City Manager Sarah Novo at a meeting Monday, Aug. 2. City Secretary Heather Ambrose also resigned, which the council accepted unanimously.
