New City Auditor in Fayetteville, Museum Hours Updated

Cade Burks, newly-elected Council member, was instrumental in helping to select a new auditor for the city. “We obtained several bids and awarded a three-year contract to Siedel Schroeder as the official City of Fayetteville auditor for FY 2020 – 2022,” stated Burks. “Siedel was referred to us by our previous auditors, Medack & Oltmann. They couldn’t continue with us due to their lack of staff. They worked with the City from 2017 to 2019.” As one of his first initiatives, Fayetteville’s financial information will be made available on the new website. Burks brings over 30 years of financial management, tracking and forecasting to his position in Place III.

Museum Hours

Our local museum in the square will now open the first Friday of every month from 4-7 p.m. Locals and longstanding residents can share memories of the history and culture of Fayetteville from the very beginning. Those new to town can discover the evolution of our small community. Hours for Saturday openings are still good from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Call Bob McGowen at (832) 904-6290 for more information.

Increased Commercial Traffic

Mayor Mike Stroup commented on one of the ways the City of Fayetteville is addressing the increase in unnecessary commercial vehicle traffic through the town. “We’re in the process of establishing the previous routine of conducting random commercial motor vehicle inspections. Prior to curbs being placed in the parking area outside the old fire station on Hwy. 159, that space was made accessible to perform commercial vehicle inspections. We plan to resurrect that initiative. DPS has assured us of their participation.” Look for this to happen in the next few months.

Visits from North Carolina

During a month-long visit from Charlotte, NC, Martha Dove’s daughter Suzanne Awn treated her parents to dinners of homemade Korean pizza and Asian omelets, ending with a plum torte. And she turned their home upside down clearing out cabinets, closets, the garage and even dad’s storeroom. It all took place while she worked remotely at her real job as an HR specialist for Piedmont Plastics.

Mobile Food Pantry

Look for the Central Texas Mobile Food Pantry to be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on the first Thursday of the month. For August, this will be on Thursday, Aug. 5. Drive-thru only. Someone will direct traffic. Please remain in your car and make room inside your trunks or truck beds for the prepackaged food boxes. Volunteers will load you up. All clients and volunteers are required to wear face masks and to social distance.
