Columbus Police Department seeks the public’s help to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for a homicide on Aug. 1.

FLHS will begin the new school year on Aug. 18. They are excited to welcome in-coming freshman students and are looking forward to a wonderful school year. The opening service for the 2021-2022 school year will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. This will officially open their fifth academic school year. “Transformed” based on Romans 12:2 is the theme for this school year. A worship service will be held and led by association pastors, with the sermon by Pastor Dustin Beck. An offering will be collected to support FLHS Scholarship Fund. A potluck dessert and punch reception will follow.

A fifth grader in Ohio has started a fund called Brady’s K9 Fund to donate ballistic and stab-proof vests to canine officers around the nation and recently that fund donated a Streetfighter custom vest valued at $1,500 to Fayette County canine officer Kolt. Kolt is shown here wearing his new vest.

As parents get ready to get their kids back to school this fall, we thought this was a great time to reprint this story, which first ran as a Footprints of Fayette installment back in 2013. School days in Fayette County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries were far different than those of today.

The estimated number of active coronavirus cases in Fayette County continues to rise according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. On Sunday the estimated number of active cases here was 116, but as of Thursday morning, the number had risen to 176.

The Young Farmer 2021 Hay Show deadline for entries is Saturday, Aug. 14.

The Brenham Banner-Press • A 17-year-old from Navasota who is facing murder and assault charges in Washington County has been released on bond. Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak confirmed that Tru’Von Sweed posted an $80,000 bond and was released from custody on July 29.
