Zoning Request Approved for Youth Sports Facility in La Grange

The La Grange City Council approved a rezoning that will allow a local investment group to build a youth sports facility and office space on Von Minden Rd.

SBA Investment Group asked the City Council to rezone a 2.248 acre tract at the corner of SH 71 Bypass and Von Minden Rd. from residential to commercial zone.

Brandon Schielack, one of the business owners, told the Record his group wants to build a covered training facility for kids in select youth leagues. He said there aren’t many places in the area for kids to train during times of inclement weather. The property would also include professional office space for lease, Schielack said.

The La Grange Zoning Commission recommended the rezoning request. The City Council held a public hearing on the request on Monday, Sept. 23, but no one from the public spoke. The City sent out letters to eight property owners within a 200 ft. radius of the property. Four neighbors returned letters in favor of the request, and the four others were not returned.
