Czech Culture and Polka Bring Visitors

Augusts’ Adventure brought Seniors to La Grange to the Texas Czech Heritage Cultural Center and the Texas Polka Lovers Club Museum. The presentations from Mark Hermes, director of the Czech Center and Carol and Gary Bucek with the Polka Museum, was very informative on the history of the museums and what we will find as when we walk through the displays. The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum (PLCTM) extends its heartfelt appreciation to H-E-B in La Grange for its generous donation of sandwich platters for a luncheon honoring a regional Senior Connections tour group visiting the museum on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Guests traveled from La Grange, Schulenburg, Flatonia, Weimar, Bryan, East Bernard, and Fayetteville to enjoy a day of touring, fellowship, and Czech heritage. Because the Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum is currently undergoing renovations, the luncheon was held at the Texas Czech Heritage Community Center in Czech Village, located within the City of La Grange Fairgrounds.

The arrangement proved to be a wonderful “double whammy” of Czech culture. Guests had the opportunity to experience the rich Czech heritage represented by the community center while also celebrating the musical legacy of polka music and dance that is at the heart of the PLCTM. The delightful afternoon was filled with conversation, fellowship, laughter, and plenty of happy smiles.

The gathering provided a wonderful setting for sharing community history, culture, and traditions while bringing together people who share an appreciation for Czech heritage and learning more about the culture and joy of polka music and dance by other ethnicities.

The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum is especially grateful to H-E-B for helping make this community gathering possible. Its generosity provided more than a delicious meal—it helped bring people together in celebration of friendship, Czech heritage, community, and polka music and dance.
