You Can Have Say in How Millions in Harvey Funds are Distributed

Fayette, Bastrop, Caldwell and Lee counties are expected to receive more than $52 million in hazard mitigation grant funds related to Hurricane Harvey.

Of those four counties, Fayette was the most impacted by the 2017 storm and could get the bulk of those funds. State officials want to hear from the public about how to use the money.

A public hearing on the method of distribution will take place this Friday, May 13, from 2-3 p.m. at the Fayette County EMS Headquarters in La Grange (1721 N. Von Minden Rd.). Officials from the Capitol Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) will conduct the meeting.

Potential uses of the grant funds include disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, mitigation, and affirmatively furthering fair housing in the most impacted and distressed areas.

Public input can also be submitted via written comments via email to GLO-MOD@capcog. org or by mailing them to ATTN: CAPCOG Hurricane Harvey CDBG-MIT, CAPCOG, 6800 Burleson Rd, Bldg. 310, Suite 165, Austin, TX 78744. Comments must be received by 5 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022.

CAPCOG asks those interested in attending the meeting to register online at https://training.capcog.org/class/view/modhearing1.
