Saturday Production of Community Theatre Play Saved When Teen Steps Into Spotlight

The three-day run of Fayette County Community Theatre’s “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” completed its run Sunday after three days of packed houses at the Fair Pavilion. And the western drama had a little extra drama before Saturday’s production when the female lead completely lost her voice. There had been no understudies in the production, but La Grange teenager Layelah Martin agreed to step into the role. Layeleh had been part of the show, singing during the show transitions with her father, Will, so she had watched several rehearsals. Layelah did a outstanding job before Melanie Lira was able to resume her role when her voice returned shortly before Sunday’s show.
