Weimar Library Hosting Researcher and Author Charles Hebert
Friends of the Weimar Public Library will host Charles Hebert, researcher and author on Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. at the United Church Fellowship Hall in Weimar.
If you missed one of Hebert’s previous presentations, we hope you avail yourself of a wonderful opportunity to hear him while he is in Weimar this month.
Hebert’s knowledge of the period 1790-1836 is recounted through stories and memorabilia you probably have not heard or seen before and is offered by the Friends group as a way of providing an interesting perspective of the time and the period for Weimar’s newest group of 7th graders in Texas history classes.
The stories related by Hebert are based on extensive research of the diaries of Santa Anna, Sam Houston, and those involved in the Runaway Scrape. The presentation not only chronicles the events of a tumultuous time in our state’s history, but also captivates the audience with displays of authentic and unusual pieces Hebert has collected from the era. The pieces never fail to get “oohs” and “ahhs” from audience members.
Hebert and his wife Sylvia retired to La Grange in 2015 from their previous professions as school administrators. They soon became involved in the history of Fayette and surrounding counties which eventually resulted in his books: “The Kreisches of Fayette County: The Remarkable Story of a Remarkable Family,” “On the Run,” “Butternut and Gray,” “Snowden,” and “Snowden Vol. 2.”
In addition to writing, Hebert has presented to numerous civic, historical, and state associations. His easy-going style engages audiences of all ages, bringing history to life and introducing many littleknown facts to a captivating presentation.
Friends of the Weimar Public Library brings this program to the community free of charge. Please RSVP to the Weimar Public Library at (979) 725-6608.
