Water Main Bursts in LG
A busted main caused a water outage for several businesses in downtown La Grange Thursday.
Assistant City Manager Frank Menefee said an old eight-inch cast iron water main burst under Washington St. around 10 a.m. on Aug. 22. Menefee said the City was aware of a small leak in the line.
“It worsened really quickly,” he said. “It blew a hole in the bottom of it and split. Age probably had something to do with it.”
City water crews were busy dealing with another leak on Lee St. when the water main on Washington failed.
The City closed Washington St. to traffic in front of the courthouse. The water department dug up the street with a backhoe to reach the ruptured water main. They worked throughout the afternoon to repair the pipe. Water service was restored around 5:30 p.m., Menefee said.
