Waldeck Lutheran Church to Host Annual Picnic May 17

The annual picnic at Waldeck Lutheran Church is this Sunday, May 17. A barbecue pork steak meal with mashed potatoes, California medley, and BBQ sauce will be served from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per plate. Desserts will also be available. It is located at 6915 Waldeck Church Ln. in Ledbetter.

Come for a day of fun, food, and fellowship and enjoy a country store, homemade ice cream, and games.

RT-C School News 

The Round Top-Carmine baseball team defeated Hull-Daisetta by the score of 8-7 on April 29 and won the second game 12-0 the next day to win bi-district. Both games were played at Huntsville High School. The area round will be played at Copperas Cove with Menard as the opponent.

The Athletic Banquet will be on May 12 and the FFA Banquet on May 19. Both begin at 6 p.m.

May 11 is a student holiday and professional development day for staff.

May 15 is the last day of classes with dismissal at 12:30 p.m.

RT-C Baccalaureate is May 17 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church at 5 p.m.

The band concert will be held on Monday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at the Festival Institute in Round Top. All are welcome to hear the bands play in this beautiful concert hall.

High School graduation and eighth grade promotion ceremony is on May 22 at Festival Hill in Round Top at 6 p.m.

Food Bank Truck 

The Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be in the parking lot of Waldeck Lutheran Church on May 16 from 10-11 a.m. The location is near the intersection of FM 1291 and FM 2145.

Food distribution will be drive-thru method. Clients need to clean out the back seats, trunks, and truck beds to make room for the boxed food. It is for Fayette County residents.

Bingo in Ledbetter 

Bingo in Ledbetter has been changed to the third Sunday in May, which is this Sunday, May 17, due to Mother’s Day on May 10.

Doors open at 1:15 p.m. for seniors 60 and older plus guests. Play is from 2-4 p.m. A five-dollar card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Snacks and drinks are available for a donation.

Carmine VFD 

The Carmine Volunteer Fire Department reminds everyone that if you plan a controlled burn, please call the sheriff’s office to give them your name, location of burn, and phone number. In Fayette County the number is (979) 968-5856. In Washington County, call the non-emergency number at (979) 277-7373.

We are all so thankful for the much-needed rain received recently.

Decoration Service 

The Carmine Cemetery Association will have its annual Decoration Service this Sunday, May 17 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Sympathy Extended 

Sympathy is extended to the family of Carol Carmean who passed away on May 1. Her funeral service was held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine on May 5 with burial in the Giddings City Cemetery. She worked at the Giddings State School and later as church secretary at MLLC.

MLLC News 

Senior Citizens meet on Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Mission & Ministry Building.

AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Sunday School meets Sunday at 9 a.m.

Worship with Holy Communion, observing the Seventh Sunday of Easter is Sunday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Donna Wright will serve as the guest pastor.

The Women of the ELCA Salad Supper will be held on June 3 at 6 p.m. with the meal served at 6:30. The theme is “Feeding the Multitude.” Susan Schultz from the AMEN Food Pantry in La Grange will serve as the guest speaker. All are welcome.

Confirmation will be held on May 31.

Vacation Bible School begins on June 14 and the last day is June 18.

Chamber Visitors’ Center The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot and Museum is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It is located at 248 E Sylvan, Carmine, TX 78932, which is on the south side of Hwy. 290.
