TxDOT Gives Update on SH 159 Road Closures
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) gave an update on the SH 159 road closures. Contractors working for TxDOT began construction on the road rehabilitation project on June 3.
So far, the following sections have been completed:
• 0.34 miles west of Forest Hills East Rd. - June 3 to Saturday, June 8.
• 0.75 miles west of Forest Hills East Rd. - June 10 to Thursday, June 13.
• 0.1 miles east of High Hill Creek Rd. - June 17 to Wednesday, June 19.
TxDOT advised motorists to expect the following road closures through the later part of next month:
• June 24 to Friday, June 28 - 0.9 miles west of FM 2981.
• July 8 to Saturday, July 13 - west side of Forest Hills East Rd.
• July 1 to Friday, July 19 - 0.2 miles east of SH 71 Bypass.
TxDOT encourages motorists to take a recommended detour around the construction area via FM 2145 and FM 2981.
While the SH 159 detour is in place, the contractor may utilize 24 hour operations to replace the existing drainage structure in an effort to get the road back open to the traveling public. The SH 159 detour is anticipated to be in place intermittently during the construction project.
The project will be a rehabilitation of the existing roadway which will ultimately provide 5 ft. – 8 ft. shoulders and two 12 ft. travel lanes for this proposed section of roadway. The project also includes replacing or widening several centerline drainage structures.
Hunter Industries, LTD was awarded the contract with a bid of $21.4 million.
