TxDot Addressing Hwy 159 Accidents; Project Won’t Be Done Until Summer ‘25
Last Friday we reported on concerns over the spate of recent crashes in the construction zone on Highway 159.
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reports they are aware of the concerns.
“TxDOT is aware of the recent crashes on SH 159 and are in the process of supplementing additional signage and message boards to better alert the travelling public of roadway conditions,” said TxDOT spokesperson Lucean Kuykendall in a statement to the Record. “We are currently starting the second of seven rehab sections working south from SH 237. The final lane configuration will consist of two 12-foot lanes and varying shoulder widths of five to eight feet. Estimated completion is late summer 2025.” TxDOT also gave an update on the intersection expansion project at US 77 (Jefferson St.) and SH 71 (Travis St.)
in La Grange.
“The contractor will be finishing up the ramps and signals in September,” Kuykendall said. “We are also awaiting the paving subcontractor to mobilize to install the right turn lane. Estimated completion is end of October.”
