Two Hit By Bullet When Gun Goes Off at Star Bar

The outside of Popz Star Bar in La Grange, where officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds Monday.

La Grange Police say an apparent accidental shooting at Popz Star Bar Monday night, July 28, left two people hospitalized.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. inside the bar, located in the 900 block of East Travis St. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said officers responded to a call at the bar and found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Gilbreath said investigators believe the man had a pistol in his pocket inside the bar. Somehow, he said, the pistol fired a single shot, wounding both the man and a woman who was inside the bar.

The Record has since independently confirmed, via multiple sources, that the man involved was former Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau.

Fayette County EMS also responded. After hearing about the incident, the Record reached out to EMS, who reported that the woman was flown by PHI Air Medical to Dell Seton in Austin in serious condition. The male was transported by ground ambulance to South Austin Medical Center in stable condition. Gilbreath said both patients were released from the hospital that night.

Gilbreath said investigators believe the gunshot was accidental. However, he said it is against state law for patrons to carry a firearm inside of a bar. Gilbreath said the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

So far, Gilbreath said, no charges have been filed.
