Turning Trash into Change
Something big is happening at 825 N. Main Street in Schulenburg, and the entire community is invited to be a part of it. Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to announce that its beloved resale shop, Habitat Home Supply, is officially rebranding as a Habitat ReStore.
This exciting transformation aligns the store with Habitat for Humanity’s nationally recognized brand, while celebrating the powerful local support that has fueled its success since opening in June 2022. What began as a modest fundraising effort has grown into a vibrant hub for reuse, retail, and community impact.
In just three years, the shop has welcomed thousands of shoppers, diverted tons of reusable goods from the landfill, and raised more than $100,000 to support affordable housing efforts in Fayette County. Most recently, proceeds helped build a home for the Wright family in La Grange and the impact continues to grow with every donated item and every purchase made.
“While our name is changing, our mission remains the same. Bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope,” said Kenny Couch, Executive Director of Fayette County Habitat for Humanity. “The ReStore model allows us to take items that might have ended up in the trash and transform them into meaningful change for families in our community.”
Habitat ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, building materials, home décor, tools, and more at a fraction of retail prices. Every sale helps fund Habitat’s local work to provide safe, affordable housing in Fayette County.
But the ReStore is more than a revenue source. It’s where sustainability meets social good; keeping usable items out of landfills, reducing environmental waste, and making affordable materials available to those who need them most. Whether you’re remodeling a home, furnishing a rental, hunting for vintage finds, or just stretching your budget, there’s something for everyone at the ReStore.
To better serve the community, new expanded hours have been announced. The Fayette County Habitat Re-Store will now be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the same convenient location: 825 N. Main St., Schulenburg, TX 78956 The ReStore accepts a wide range of donations, including: • Gently used or new household items
• Non-upholstered furniture • Appliances and tools
• Home improvement supplies All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and every item goes toward building a stronger, more equitable future in Fayette County.
Volunteers are also at the heart of the ReStore’s success. No retail experience is necessary, just a willingness to lend a hand. Volunteers assist with receiving donations, helping customers, organizing the store, and more. Whether you have a few hours a week or just want to help occasionally, there’s a place for you on the team.
“This rebranding isn’t just cosmetic, it’s a reflection of everything we’ve accomplished together,” Couch added. “We’re proud of our past, energized for the future, and thankful for everyone who’s helped turn this little shop into a powerful force for good.”
As the ReStore steps boldly into its next chapter, Fayette County Habitat invites the entire community to donate, shop, volunteer, and spread the word.
What once was trash is now fueling transformation— and with your continued support, the best is yet to come.
