Traffic Stop in Schulenburg Leads to Warrant Arrest
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of May 29 through June 4.
Traffic Stop
On May 29, Officer Chris Kalina stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Schultz for failure to signal required distance. While speaking to the individual officer learned he has warrant and both occupants were under 21. Officer learned they had numerous alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and liquor was also found. Officer conducted a field sobriety test on both and one was impaired. Individuals poured out the alcohol and the one that was not impaired drove and warnings were issued.
On May 30, Mills observed a vehicle in the 30 block of N. Kessler with expired registration and stopped the vehicle. Citation was issued.
On May 30, Mills stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for a defective tail lamp. Driver was given a warning.
On May 30, Officer Byron Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding going 91 in a 75 mph zone. Driver was issued citation for speeding and no drivers license.
On May 30, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 600 block of West I-10 going 92 in a 75 mph zone. Driver received citations for speeding and unrestrained child.
On May 30, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding going 95 in a 75 in the 600 block of E. I-10. Driver received a citation.
On May 31, Mills stopped a vehicle in the 14 block of N. Kessler for a defective tail lamp. Driver had identification card. Driver was advised he needed to have a license and he needed a licensed driver to take custody of the vehicle. Driver issued citation for no drivers license and defective tail lamp.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 700 block of N. Kessler.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding and a citation was issued.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of N. Kessler for displaying an expired license plate. Driver received a warning.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of E. 1-10 for speeding going 82 in a 75 mph zone. Driver received a warning.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 600 block of W. I-10.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of E. I-10 for no front license plate. Driver received a warning for no front plate and for expired registration.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle for improperly displaying a 30-day permit and received a citation for no drivers license.
On May 31, Powe stopped a vehicle for failure to dim headlights in the 100 block of Kessler. Driver received citation for expired registration.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 600-block of E. I-10 going 90 in 75 mph zone. Driver received citation.
On June 3, Parkinson stopped vehicle at Main and Lyons for running a stop sign. A warning was issued for failure to display drivers license.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of E. I-10 for a defective tail light. Driver received a citation for no insurance.
On June 3, Parkinson stopped a vehicle at James and Summit for turning signal being the wrong color. A warning was issued for that and for failure to display a driver’s license and for expired drivers license and failure to maintain insurance.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 89 block of Kessler. Citation was issued for speeding and for driving while license invalid.
On June 3, Powe stopped vehicle in the 600 block of E. I-10 for failure to dim headlights when following. Driver received a citation for speeding going 80 in a 75 and no drivers license.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 600 block of W. I-10. Driver received a citation for no drivers license.
On June 3, Parkinson stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Upton for defective license plate lamp. A warning was issued and citations were issue for failure to display and failure to report change of address.
On June 3, Powe stopped vehicle in the 400 block of Summit for improperly displaying a 30-day permit. Driver received citation for no driver license.
On June 3, Powe stopped vehicle for obscure license plate. Driver received a citation for no drivers license.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 700 block of N. Kessler. Driver received a citation for no drivers license.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 600 block of Paulus. Driver received citations for no insurance and two unrestrained children.
On June 3, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 700 block of N. Kessler.
On June 3, Mills stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign in the 400 block of Wolf St. A warning was issued.
On June 3, Mills stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of N. Kessler for running a red light. A warning was issued.
On June 3, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Kessler for disregarding a red light. A warning was issued.
Assault
On June 3, Officer Frank Parkinson was flagged down in the 600 block of Upton for an individual that wanted to inform him a silver car stopped in front of him and shot at him five times with a bb gun. They did not have a license plate or anything else. Officer searched the area but was unable to locate.
Animal Complaint
On June 2, Officer Hailee Vincent was advised of an abandoned dog in the 700 block of Black St. Officer picked up the dog and took to the pound.
On June 4, Officer Juan Castilleja was contacted out two small armadillos in her yard. Officer was able to catch one but it jumped out of the bucket and ran under neighbors house. The second one also ran away.
Criminal Trespass
On May 31, Castilleja responded to Arlans to have complainant sign a criminal trespass. Officer traveled to the 900 block of James to attempt to serve the warning. Individual refused to sign the trespass warning and wanted to know what would happen if she did not sign it and goes to the property. Officer instructed her she doesn’t sign and goes to the property she would be arrested and taken to jail, she signed the criminal trespass warning.
On May 31, Office Jacob Mills responded to Arlans store in the 200 block of College in regards to issuing a criminal trespass warning.
Disturbance
On May 31, Parkinson was dispatched to the 100 block of Paulus for a potential assault. Suspect was not on scene upon arrival. While on scene the suspect called and he was told he was not allowed there. She then added it was over between them.
On May 31, Castilleja was dispatched to the 70 block of S. Main for a verbal disturbance. The parties were separated for the night.
Suspicious Person/Vehicle
On June 1, Vincent responded to the 500 block of College for a suspicious person. Officer checked the area but was unable to locate.
Theft
On June 4, Mills spoke with individual in the 600 block of Upton that advised his wife had taken money out of his bank account without his permission and she is not on the account. Officer advised him to get his information and paperwork from the bank.
Welfare Check
On June 2, Vincent responded to the 600 block of Upton for a welfare check and all was fine.
Miscellaneous
On May 30, Mills responded to a man sitting in a chair next to I-10 officer made contact with the individual who advised he is trying to get a ride to Tennessee. Officer offered him a ride to a surrounding county but declined and advised On Maybe in a few hours he would take a ride.
On May 30, Mills responded to the 1400 block of Kallus for a 911 call with a female crying on the phone.
On May 31, Castilleja responded to the 200 block of College in reference to a vehicle unlock located at Arlins.
On May 31, Mills responded to the 600 block of N. Main where complainant advised of kids breaking things on her property.
On June 2, Vincent responded to the 300 block of N. Main for an unruly customer.
On June 3, Castilleja stopped by 57 Kessler in reference to a vehicle that had been parked in their parking lot for more than three days. Officer informed complainant they could call a wrecker to have it removed from the lot.
