Thousands Lose Power As Storm Soaks Fayette

Friday storms dumped more than seven inches of rain in parts of Fayette County with La Grange getting about four inches.

The storm also knocked out power to lots of folks.

Here’s a statement from Fayette Electric about the outages: “On the afternoon of May 2, severe thunderstorms swept through Fayette Electric Cooperative’s (FEC) service territory, leading to widespread power outages across multiple communities. The first outage was reported at approximately 1:49 p.m. in the Cozy Corner area of La Grange.

“In total, 27 separate outages affected 2,116 FEC meters. The most significant disruptions occurred in the Weimar and Riverside/Frisch Auf! areas, where entire feeders were knocked out. The outages were primarily caused by lightning strikes, high winds, and tree limbs falling onto power lines.

“FEC line crews, along with support from contractor crews, responded swiftly to assess damage and begin restoration efforts. Thanks to their dedication and teamwork, power was fully restored to all affected areas by approximately 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 3.

“Fayette EC thanks its members for their patience and understanding during the storm recovery process and remains committed to delivering safe and reliable electric service.”
