If you didn’t see Tuesday’s edition of The Record (partially shown at right) you missed out on the amazing history of the Tommy Taylor family and the commendable military service of so many Taylors. The author of that piece, Marion Taylor, wanted to share a little more about how the story came together, especially to thank those that helped contribute to it:

“Tommy Taylor, our patriarch, has produced a family of productive citizens who has proudly served this country over the past 80 years with service in many wars: World War II, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Afghanistan War and present-day confrontations.

Tommy Taylor family members are proud to tell of their past connections and ties to their Fayette County home and how the values and morals learned in this small community are still a part of who they are and why they have their shared beliefs. Tommy Taylor family members have continued to honor the legacy begun by a strong African American man born and raised in humble conditions in the community of La Grange, Texas, in the 1800s. Mr. Taylor’s influence has gone far, spreading from La Grange nationwide.

This story was made possible through contributions made by all family members. Special thanks to the following: granddaughters Velvia Taylor-Garner, Jo Alma Taylor-Cooper, Annette Taylor-Auzenne, Brenda Joyce Taylor Williams and Linda Faye Taylor Jackson. Special thanks to great-granddaughter Kathleen Cooper for editing and designing the article, a dream fulfilled by Tommy Taylor Sr.’s granddaughter Marion Ann Taylor.

About the author: A 1964 graduate of Randolph High School, Marion Taylor entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965.
