Summer Programs Begin June 8 at Round Top Family Library
Round Top Family Library is excited to kick off their kids’ summer enrichment programming on June 8. Session 1 classes include Cooking Club (K-3rd Grade), Gardening Club (K-3rd Grade), Art & Literacy (K-3rd Grade), Gardening (4th-6th Grade), and Animal Science (4th-6th Grade). Limited spots are still available in select classes, so please check the website for current availability and registration information. They look forward to welcoming students for a summer of hands-on learning, creativity, and exploration.
Summer music lessons are available at the Round Top Family Library. Guitar and ukulele lessons will resume on June 8. Families with children ages 8-18 who are interested in participating are encouraged to contact the library for registration information and availability.
Children’s story time will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:15 a.m. for a special children’s story time presented by Sue Young. Children and families are invited to enjoy stories, fun, and community at the library.
Flag Retirement
TheAmerican Legion Post 602 Shelby invites all veterans the public to a flag retirement ceremony and breakfast on Saturday, June 13, from 7:30-9 a.m. The breakfast will include bacon, eggs, biscuits & gravy. There will be a free will donation. The flag retirement will occur at 9:30 a.m. Please bring your unserviceable flags. The Shelby Post Headquarters are located at 4019 FM 1457 in Shelby.
RT-C Solar Car
The RT-C student-led engineering students from Round Top-Carmine High School are gearing up for some summer fun and competition. They have continued work this summer four days a week at the RT-C High School and anticipate driving the solar car in the Round Top 4th of July parade. The High School Solar Car Challenge competition begins July 15 in Fort Worth at Texas Motor Speedway where they will spend three days in “scrutineering,” which is a thorough safety and functional check by competition organizers before embarking on a 5-day journey on Texas Highways. The team will leave Fort Worth Sunday morning, July 19, and drive the solar car to Palestine for the first overnight stop of the trip. On July 20 the solar car will be driven from Palestine to Round Rock on highway 79. The lunch stop on July 20 will be in Hearne and the afternoon stop in Rockdale is the closest the team will be to home. On July 21, the team will travel from Round Rock to Fredericksburg. On July 22, the team will travel from Fredericksburg to San Angelo. The final day has the team driving the solar car from San Angelo to Fort Stockton. Florida Chapel Cemetery The Florida Chapel Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at the Muesse Chapel on the cemetery grounds. RT-Warrenton VFD
On June 25, the Round Top-Warrenton annual fundraising raffle ends with their drawing, so now is the time to buy your raffle tickets to support the V.F.D. Only 1,500 tickets will be offered. Tickets are $20 each. Tickets can be purchased at Round Top State Bank locations, Round Top Mercantile, Round Top Real Estate, Round Top Service Station, Carmine State Bank, Wimberley in Henkel Square, Fayetteville Propane, or from any fire department member. Proceeds from the fundraiser go towards the purchase of equipment, insurance premiums, equipment and facilities maintenance, operations, and firefighter/emergency care training.
Do Your Duty Round Top DYDRoundTopmembers are busy preparing their float and riders for Round Top’s 4th of July parade. We can anticipate seeing some very special characters in costumes from 1776. There’s talk that George and Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Betsy Ross, Pocohontas, and a clique of colonial women may all be riding the beautiful DYD float in this very special upcoming Fourth of July parade. The DYD float showcases a handcrafted replica of the Round Top Courthouse which was built by master craftsman Larry Birkelbach of Round Top.
Shakespeare at Winedale Shakespeare at Winedale kicks off their summer performances on Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. with “Romeo and Juliet.” This will be their 56th Summer season. The University summer season is loosely based around the theme of history. Full of humor and sword fighting, Henry IV will continue from last summer’s Richard II. The beloved Romeo and Juliet will feature traditional American music from the Civil War, a period that speaks to the play’s themes. An adapted Love’s Labors Lost is set in Winedale in 1976, highlighting the program’s joyously revolutionary artistic roots and the Round Top community. RT Area Historical Society The Round Top Area Historical Society is featuring a wonderful exhibit of restored and enlarged images by Gustav Froelich, Friederike Recknagel, and Robert Fulton Adams, who were photographers in the Round Top area between 1866 and the 1920s. The exhibit will be open to the public every Saturday in June and July from 1-4 p.m. at their Pavilion located at 397 E. Mill Street in Round Top.
Round Top Festival Hill Festival Hill’s 2026 Summer Festival begins in grand style with its Season Opening Orchestra Concert on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. The Texas Festival Orchestra will take the stage for an evening of masterworks, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and Elgar’s rarely heard Symphony No. 1. The concert will feature Founder and Artistic Director James Dick at the piano, joined by acclaimed conductor Stefan Asbury. With the festival’s opening concert just around the corner, audiences are invited to celebrate the start of another inspiring summer of music at Festival Hill. Hermann Sons Life
The monthly meeting of Hermann Sons Life was held on the evening of May 26 at the Round Top Rifle Hall with a social hour and meeting. Vice President Myrt Meinkowsky opened the meeting with the Pledge ofAllegiance to the flag. Although one officer was absent, attendance was excellent.
Join Hands Day was a tremendous success. All who donated items for the Country Store, set up Saturday morning, worked the Sunday event, and helped with cleanup were thanked. They raised $1,120, and with the additional $500 from the Grand Lodge, they will be able to present the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department with $1,600+.
Melanie Rauch, community coordinator, presented the list of Mother’s Day cards she had sent. Happy birthday was sung to Pearlie Wagner. Attendance prizes were won by Roy Piper, Pearlie Wagner, Earl Fenske, Caroline Meischen and Jeanette Hancock. A big thanks to Mary Rauch for the patriotic cake. Jolene Mathis led the table prayer before everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch, refreshments and fellowship.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 22.
