Stocking Decorating Workshop Oct. 12 for CCA Christmas Drive
Anyone who would like to participate in decorating stockings to donate to Combined Community Action’s Christmas Drive are invited to come to Zilss hall for a workshop on Oct. 12 at 1 pm. The stockings are due no later than Nov. 21 and will be displayed at Murphy’s Steakhouse from Nov 25-Dec. 10. The stockings will be voted on for prettiest and cutest on Dec. 11 Winchester Women’s Luncheon with prizes given out. The stockings will then be presented to Combined Community Action staff. Scarecrow Fun Run
Join the Winchester Area Civic Association on Oct. 18 beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the 2nd Annual Scarecrow Scholarship Fun Run. You can register online at

Early registration until Sept. 30, includes limited edition t-shirts. Come out to Winchester and enjoy a perfect fall run with the whole family. Enjoy scarecrows along the route and compete for the “Best” Scarecrow Costume. All funds benefit the WACA Scholarship Fund.
Faith Lutheran Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Holy Cross Warda Picnic Grounds. There will be a German plated meal serving from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A meal of schnitzel, potatoes, kraut, green beans, noodles, bread, and coffee cake will be available at $15 a plate. Winchester BBQ Cook Off
The Winchester BBQ Showdown will be on Oct. 10-11, starting at 5 p.m. in Winchester at Shorty’s and Zilss Community Hall.The 13th annual cook off benefits Combined Community Action, Inc. (Meals on Wheels). Best contests will include bloody Mary’s, jackpot beans, chicken, pork chops (open to kids ages 6-14 years of age only), pork and brisket. Winchester Show Fund
Winchester Show Fund dinner is Oct. 19 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Park. The event will feature BBQ pork, tortillas, beans and cole slaw. It will be a drive thru dinner only from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Contact a 4-H member for more information.
Quilt Festival
The WACA team of Quilt Block paint class instructors will be offering classes again at the Houston International Quilt Festival and Show from Oct. 6-10. They have expanded from two classes to three due to the demand for the class. Karen Kilian will be joined by her assistant teachers to conduct the classes. The 2’ by 2’ classes are scheduled for October 6 and 8. Both are full. The new class, designed to help individuals who have trouble transporting a block home, is on October 7 and is the painting of a 1’ x 1’ block. It has 8 registered participants
and can handle 15.
The Little Free Library
The library is on the covered patio at the Hall and is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s) look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. Also on the patio, there is a bulletin board available to post event notices.
Round Table Book Club
The Sept. 16 meeting has been postponed. It will now be on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall with the book selection of “One Good Thing” by Georgia Hunter. All are welcome.
