Sternadel Honored for 42 Years of Service to County

The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a certificate of appreciation honoring Pct. 2 Commissioner Luke Sternadel for his 42 years of service to the County. Sternadel will retire at the end of this month.

Sternadel started working for the County as a road and bridge employee in 1983. He ran for Pct. 2 Commissioner in 2018 after his former boss Gary Weishuhn stepped down to retire. He won that election and took office on Jan. 1, 2019. Sternadel was re-elected unopposed for his second term in 2022. He announced his intention to retire from the County back in March.

“He’s done a superb job for Pct. 2 and the County,” County Judge Dan Mueller said at the Commissioners Court meeting on Thursday, April 24. “We are so thankful for what you have done, Commissioner, and we certainly wish you well in your retirement.”

“It’s been an honor being a commissioner in the best county, in the best state, in the best nation,” Sternadel said. “I wouldn’t have been here that long if I didn’t enjoy it. It’s been a really good career. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be around to aggravate y’all like all the other retirees do. Thank y’all.”

“I consider Luke to be one of the good old country boys,” said Pct. 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann. “There’s not enough of those left in the world today. He’s the type of person that when he shakes your hand and gives you his word, he means it. Whenever he gives you his word, it’s as good as gold. He cares about his family. He cares about his friends. He cares about Fayette Couty. He’ll give you the shirt off his back – to every single one of us up here. I’m proud to call him a fellow commissioner. I’m also proud to call him my friend.

“He deserves his retirement,” Brossmann added. “After 42 years, if you don’t deserve it, you’re in bad shape. I hope he gets to enjoy it and do the fun things in life that we all wish we could do, because tomorrow ain’t guaranteed for any of us. So you better enjoy it while you can. He’s going to leave a void up here. I don’t know who the judge is going to appoint, but they’ve got some really big shoes to fill.”

Sternadel thanked Brossmann for his remarks.

As Brossmann stated, County Judge Mueller will appoint the new Pct. 2 Commissioner after Sternadel officially resigns from office. Sterandel told the Record he intends to leave office on April 30.
