Vaccinations Urged For Those That Have Not Done So

The outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Panhandle regions of Texas is garnering attention across the nation, with the CDC saying as of March 27, 2025, a total of 483 confirmed measles cases were reported by 20 jurisdictions - 400 were reported in Texas alone. Since late January, the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) has identified 400 cases with 41 patients hospitalized and one fatality.

“The preparedness epidemiologist assigned to our region from TDSHS has no concerns for Fayette County at this time in relation to the measles outbreak. However, he did encourage anyone not vaccinated for measles to get vaccinated as it is the best way to prevent getting sick,” said Angela Hahn, Fayette County emergency management coordinator.
