Stan Kitzman Announces Bid for Reelection
State Representative Stan Kitzman today announced his campaign for re-election to the Texas House, proudly representing House District 85, which includes Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Waller, and Wharton counties, along with a portion of Fort Bend County. Kitzman enters the race with the endorsement of Governor Greg Abbott and a proven record of conservative leadership, military service, and community commitment.
“I’m honored to have Governor Abbott’s support as we keep fighting for faith, family, freedom, and the Texas way of life,” said Kitzman. “This past session, we delivered real wins on the border, property taxes, and parental rights—and I’m running for re-election to finish what we started.”
A retired combat veteran, Kitzman served 21 years with three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. In the Texas House, he serves on the Appropriations Committee, the Agriculture & Livestock Committee, the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, and chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Article III, which oversees education funding. He also leads as Chairman of the Texas House Water Caucus, helping drive the state’s long-term infrastructure and water security agenda.
This session, Kitzman helped pass some of the most conservative legislation in state history, including $18 billion in property tax relief, $6 billion for border security, a ban on DEI mandates in higher education, stronger bail reform laws, and increased funding for Texas public schools and teacher pay. He fought to block foreign adversaries like China and Iran from purchasing Texas land.
Kitzman authored House Bill 43, a major reform that modernizes outdated state ag programs and provides real tools for producers to stay in business. The bill lifts age restrictions, raises loan and grant caps, lowers matching requirements, and expands support to essential ag-related businesses like processors and cotton ginners. With over 30 agriculture organizations backing it, HB 43 is considered one of the most impactful rural economic bills in modern history.
A graduate of Texas A&M University and Royal High School, Kitzman has also served as a Waller County Commissioner, public school teacher, and drainage district manager, and he currently owns and operates a small business in Pattison. Deeply rooted in community service, he is a founding member and former president of the Waller County Veterans Memorial, president of the West I-10 Chamber of Commerce, president of the Waller County Sheriff’s Office Advisory Board, past commander of VFW Post 4007, and a board member of the Texas Water Conservation Association. He lives in Pattison and is the proud father of two daughters.
