St. Paul Lutheran Church Adult Fellowship in Serbin will have their 28th Annual Fried Chicken Dinner on Sunday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m.12 p.m. at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Preorders are preferred and all plates are to-go for $15. For tickets call (979) 366-9650.

Holy Cross Church Picnic Holy Cross Lutheran Annual Church Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 31. Mark your calendars for this fun event. Brisket, pork and chicken BBQ will be sold at the pits beginning at 9:30 a.m. The ladies will be selling sides of noodles, beans, potato salad and cold slaw for $4 each. If you would like to preorder sides, please call Cindy at (713) 628-1056.

The Ladies Country Store will open at 9 a.m. and includes baked goods and lots of wonderful home canned/ preserved items. Children’s activities begin at 11 a.m. and include barrel train rides. The ladies silent auction is from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Homemade hamburgers, French fries and nachos will be sold beginning at 4 p.m.

Music by Mark Gruetzner from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Lost Cause Band will play from 2-5:30 p.m.

The live auction starts at 5:30 p.m. They are accepting donations for the live auction. Contact Brian at (979) 9663761 to donate auction items. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day.

37th Annual Wendish Fest The 37th Annual Wendish Fest will be held on Sept. 28 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds 1011 CR 212 Giddings. The drive-thru Wendish meal line opens at 9:30 a.m. with the dine in line opening at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are only available at the festival. This day celebrates the Wendish culture and history with food, activities, ties, demon- folklife exhibits, demonstrations and live polka music. The Wendish Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., bird wedding presented by St. Paul students is at 11:30 a.m. There will be a live auction of the coffee cakes at 12:45 p.m. and live music by Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1-4 p.m. Included in this free family- friendly event will be kids train rides, sausage stuffing demo, washer pitching, noodle making, Wendish Easter Egg, blacksmithing, wine making and cross cut saw demonstrations. Sewing Circle 

The Sewing Circle meets each Thursday from 9 a.m.noon in the old parish hall at Holy Cross in Warda, which is around the back side of the church. No experience is necessary and you do not have to be a church member to join this fun group. Contact the church office at (979) 2423333 if you have any questions.

Game Day at Holy Cross 

The next Game Day at Holy Cross in Warda will be held Thursday, Sept. 18 from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.

Birth Announcement 

Congratulations to Kenny and Milissa Alford on the birth of their granddaughter, Lainey Marie Philbrook, born to Garet and Kayla (Alford) Philbrook on Aug. 13. Excited to welcome Lainey home are her big sisters, Brinkley and Hadley, and her great-grandparents, Allen and Dolores Wolf.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

GEMS (Girls Embracing Mission Service) will meet for an ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross.

Everyone is invited to join in the Chapel Worship Service held each Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.

Students and faculty will attend their annual retreat at Camp Lone Star onAugust 2829. This will include two days of challenging courses, Bible Study and learning about belonging in Christ’s family.
