Splashpad Equipment Clogged by Too Much Birthday Cake, Glitter

City of La Grange workers found the splashpad equipment clogged with confetti, glitter and cake when they arrived to work Monday morning, May 23.

City Manager Shawn Raborn said seven parties took place at the splashpad over the weekend. He asked residents using the spashpad to keep food and party favors away from the water equipment.

“It’s going to take the community to self-govern itself,” Raborn said at the City Council meeting on Monday. “If you see something, report it. We may actually go back and change how we do parties.”

Raborn said the City might begin requiring residents to schedule parties in advance.

“We get frustrated,” said Janet Rangel, the City’s recreation director. “I don’t want to penalize those who have a good party, clean and take care of things, but someone else comes in behind them and does something.”

The City Council discussed options such as charging admission to the splashpad, but they took no action at the meeting.
