Speed Family Reunion Set for June 13 at Muldoon Mercantile
Frank, Bob and Tom Speed family descendants will be gathering at the Muldoon Mercantile on Saturday, June 13. Family members are invited to come out and see all the family artifacts and mix and mingle beginning at 10 a.m.
There will be loads of family documents and artifacts on display. Everyone is asked to bring along their favorite dish or dishes to share for lunch, that begins at 11 a.m. Then following lunch there will be door prizes, so be sure to bring something fun to contribute.
Lueders Passes Away
Muldoon native, Muriel (Byler) Lueders passed away on May 28 in Bastrop at the age of ninety-five. She lived in Muldoon and would serve as substitute mail carrier for her husband JW until 1974, when she and husband JW Lueders moved their family to Bastrop. She was laid to rest in Pitman Cemetery in Muldoon next to her husband, JW Lueders. Muriel is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lueders and partner Darla Koehler; her son, Russell Lueders and wife Aya; nine grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren.
4th of July in the Park
The Muldoon Park Association is hard at work organizing and getting things set up to bring back the big 4th of July celebration in the park. They are making plans to have a hat contest. Prizes for the best decorated hat are in the works. So, be sure and start making your plans, gathering patriotic hat decorations and putting together some outstanding hats.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through the park. Anyone who would like to participate are invited to decorate a float, a bicycle, a motorbike, or even themselves can come out and be part of this fun event.
In the park plans for an auction are being laid and donations are needed. Contact Antoniette Syler-Joplin at (979) 561-6973 for more information on what is needed and can be used or maybe po-even to volunteer in some position. The auction is always a fun way to raise funds to take care of the wonder community asset.
On the menu for this 4th of July are All-American hot dogs. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite dish to share. Plates, napkins, and utensils will be provided by the park. This is a great chance to show off your culinary skills and enjoy a meal in the park. A free will donation will be collected to cover the expenses of the paper goods.
It is just a few weeks away. Find your lawn chairs and a great patriotic outfit and make plans to come out to the park on the 4th.
Church News
Stray Gathering Cowboy Church has lots planned for June, beginning with a Team Roping Event on June 19 at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena on FM 609 outside La Grange. Barbi Heffernan is organizing the event for SG2C. This will be a great cowboy event for everyone to enjoy. On the next day, June 20 at 7:30 a.m., SG2C will be hosting a Men’s Breakfast. This is a delicious way to meet other Christian men in the area. The men meet at the church and enjoy food and fellowship.
Ending the month SG2C is also organizing a fundraiser for members Mike and JoAnn’s daughter Tammy June 27.
Out and About
Nancie Blair traveled to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to join up with her sister and brother-in-law Lu and Fred Ginapp to see Nancie’s great niece, Caroline Riddle from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst. Caroline graduated with many honors. The ceremony was held downtown Fort Worth. Caroline will attend Southwestern University in Georgetown.
Julia Speed was in doing work around the ranch. She also got to visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Debra and John Schwartzenburg.
Road Hazards
The recent rains have made the grass really grow, especially around the roads. This makes it harder to see wildlife crossing the roadways till they are in the road. Slow down and watch for deer and hogs.
