Speed Family Reunion June 11

Speed Family Reunion June 11

Calling all decedents of Bob, Frank and Tom Speed families: it is that time of year again for the 73rd annual Speed family reunion. The Speed family has been in Muldoon for generations and this is a chance to connect or reconnect with family members. Come join up with the cousins on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Muldoon Mercantile for some fun and visiting.

Everyone is asked to bring your dishes for a potluck lunch. Plates, napkins and utensils will be provided along with the ice tea. Do not forget to bring your door prizes to add to the fun and any family pictures you might have of share memories. This is a chance for catching up and having some fun.

Rain

Muldoon received some rain this past week. We received 0.67 inches of rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The rain was brought in with some strong winds. There was some wind damage with small limbs being blown down. It also has brought the temperatures down in the mornings for right now.

The rain settled the dust and has made for prime hay cutting time. Many in the area have already begun working in the hay fields cutting and baling. Watch out for tractors and hay equipment on the roadways.

Fundraiser Success

Muldoon Fire Department and Muldoon Museum both held fundraisers last weekend. The fire department sold pulled pork sandwiches and made around $6,000.

The Muldoon Museum held a bake sale alongside the plate pick up line and made over three hundred dollars on their baked goods and received $55 in donations to help with the upkeep and improvements to the museum. The Museum was open during the pickup time and there were a number of people who took advantage of the time to stop and check out all the great displays of Muldoon history.

Out and About

Debra Schwartzenburg and her sister Julia Speed traveled to Galveston to a memorial service for their cousin, Linda O’Briain on the ship Elissa. Elissa is a cargo ship from 1877, with three masts and 19 sails. Linda had put time in on the restoration of Elissa. Linda had passed away on April 11 in Canada, where she lived with her husband George O’Briain. The family held the Galveston service to allow the southern part of Linda’s family to pay their respects. Linda and George had been in Muldoon a few years ago visiting in their big RV.
