South Lee County VFD Selling BBQ Chickens Oct. 27

The South Lee Country Volunteer Fire Department will have barbecue chicken to go only on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Serbin picnic grounds from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $12 per chicken, sauce is $3, and sides of noodles, pinto beans and potato salad are $3 each. To order, contact the church office at (979) 3669650 by Monday, Oct. 21.

Neighbors Night Out 

Neighbors Night Out will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. Everyone in the area is invited to join this fun evening of community and good food. Speakers will include Paul Biles from Tejas Camp and Retreat Center, a representative from Marsch Dog Kennels, Nikki Kueck from FLHS and more. BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs and Blue Bell ice cream will be served. FLHS Octoberfest 

Faith Lutheran High School will have their annual Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 26. The “Battle of the Vines” and “Battle of the Brew” are back. Plan your brews now. There will be a traditional German meal of brats, kraut, green beans, noodles, bread and coffee cake served from 10:30 a.m.-noon, pick up for the meal is drive through only. Tickets are $15 each and are available from the church office or from any student or staff members at FLHS or call (979) 242-2889. Registration for cornhole and 42 domino tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. ($5 per person.) The brews and vine judging begins at 3 p.m. Visit the FLHS Facebook page for more information regarding the contest. Sampling of the vines/brews, to vote for the people’s choice award begins at 4 p.m. Kids games and activities, including a bounce house, temporary tattoos, photo backdrop and hayrides will begin at 4 p.m. Costume contest will be judged at 5 p.m. and the live auction beings at 5:30 p.m. There will be a concession stand all afternoon and evening where items like chopped BBQ on bun, loaded pulled pork nachos, hot dogs, warm pretzels with beer cheese as well as other snack and desserts can be purchased.

Wednesday Night Bible Study 

The Wednesday Night Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda continues their weekly study at 6:30 p.m. in the family room. This is a study on 1st and 2nd Kings. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. If you are interested in participating, please contact Cyndy Zoch to receive a study guide. Her contact email is: cyndy.zoch@gmail.com.

The next Game Day at Holy Cross will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served, there is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.

Sewing Circle 

The Sewing Circle meets every Thursday in the old parish hall at the Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m.-noon. They average making 80-100 quilts a year and no experience is necessary to join this fun group.

Recycle Trailers 

The recycle trailers are located at the storage units in Warda off Hwy. 77. If you have aluminum cans, there is a large wire basket at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. The money from the cans goes to the local Trail Life Group and is greatly appreciated.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Reformation will be observed on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The midweek morning Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

The Youth Group will meet Sunday, Oct. 13 at 11:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall. All youth 5th grade through high school are invited to join.
